We celebrated the Sidell family Christmas in early January. Jess, John, Mason and Fiona made the trip up from MA and we all got together for a weekend of merryment.
The kids had fun playing together,

snacking,

opening presents,

and playing with new toys,

and the adults had fun watching, visiting and of course, eating way too much:

Tim and Soren did an especially good job sharing and playing nicely together

No family gathering would be complete without a group photo

We’ve had some pretty chilly weather here over the last few weeks, and while the kids do like to get out to play in the snow, they don’t always last so long. So, we’ve had to find other activities to keep ourselves occupied, including painting. Nick and I introduced Tim to watercolors and he LOVES them! He picked it up pretty quickly and isn’t half bad!
Nick has been having some fun too ![]()

Of course, a little video:

The other night, I was making pizza for dinner, and was just about to add the cheese when the phone rang. I answered it, and meanwhile, Nick decided he was going to finish up dinner for me. He brought his stepstool over to the counter, took the cheese and started spreading it over the pizza. He did a fabulous job, probably much better than I would have done!

It really has been beautiful here lately and the snow has been perfect for playing in. We also have the pleasure of dog-sitting for some friends and Dixie, possibly the most gentle, well-behaved, undemanding dog in the world, has been keeping Nick company in his outdoor play.
Not sure what all the tongue was about…

Nick has been having a great time in the snow too, building forts, making paths, sledding and of course, his first love, shoveling….

We’ve been having so much fun here with the foot and half of powder that fell a few days ago! Tim wanted to shovel but was happy with a rake (since our other kid sized shovel is lost in a snowbank somewhere). He took good care of the bushes and walkway…
As well as grooming the end of the driveway….
Here’s a little clip…

The boys had a special treat this noon time and got to watch tv while eating their lunches. We tuned in to the inauguration and tried to explain to Nick what was going on and why it was such a big deal. I’m not sure how much he understood but hope that it is something that he appreciates later in life…

We got a bunch of snow yesterday but the temperatures were warm today (up near 30 – tropical compared to last week) so we went outside for some playtime. Tim seemed to get the hang of the mitten thing this time and kept them on. Both boys were having a ball playing in the snow, building forts, shoveling, and running around. Nick ended up going in before Tim, mostly because he got snow down his boots. He’s gone through a huge growth spurt in the last few weeks and outgrew the snowpants we got for him just a few months ago!

So, for the last few weeks, Nick has been procrastinating more and more with going to sleep. He’ll call out to us, giving one reason or another always accompanied with “I don’t want to be alone”. Tim starts crying as soon as we leave the room (as long as I can remember), although I feel like its gotten worse lately – maybe because he can say mommy, daddy and Nick in his cries. So, Greg and I decided maybe it was time to put the two kiddos in the same room. Its been the plan all along, but we’ve resisted since we were afraid they’d keep each other up at night and worse, wake each other up at ungodly (well, make that ungodlier) hours of the morning…. But, we figure that eventually, its going to happen, and now might be just as good a time as any… So, here goes!
We moved Tim’s crib into Nick’s room this morning. Tim wasn’t crazy about it for naptime but did eventually take a nap. Nick was very excited that Tim would be in his room at bedtime and the two of them went to bed like a breeze. Not an unhappy peep from Tim, just “Bye!”. I went up to check on them after about 20 minutes and they were both happily reading in bed. Then it was lights out… I’ve still been called up 4 times (Nick wants the light on), but they’re still both pretty happy, chattering away at each other… Thankfully, tomorrow’s a holiday just in case we all need to sleep in!
